Home / Guides / Best Holster for a Walther PDP: A Carry Gun That Deserves a Real Rig
The PDP has one of the best striker triggers on the market and a slide that is genuinely easy to track. What it does not have is a huge aftermarket holster selection. Getting it right means matching your exact PDP variant.
The line splits into the standard PDP (full-size grip) and the PDP-F (a shorter trigger reach and slightly reduced grip, designed for smaller hands). Slide lengths run 4", 4.5", and 5". Compact and full-size frames exist across those lengths.
| Variant | Slide | Frame | Carry verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDP Compact 4" | 4" | Compact | Best carry option |
| PDP-F 3.5" | 3.5" | Reduced | Great for smaller hands |
| PDP 4.5" | 4.5" | Full | OWB / cold weather |
| PDP 5" | 5" | Full | Duty / range |
A PDP-F and a standard PDP are not the same fit. The trigger shoe and reach differ, and the frame profile at the trigger guard is not identical.
The PDP slide is distinctive — deeply serrated, with a squared profile. A holster cut for a PPQ or a generic Walther will not retain it the same way. Confirm PDP is listed specifically.
The Performance Duty Trigger on the PDP is short, light, and crisp. That is the whole appeal, and it is exactly why complete trigger guard coverage matters.
The PDP ships optic-ready on many models and is very commonly run with a red dot. The cut must clear the optic housing without contact through the draw. Verify the relief is tall enough for the optic you actually mounted.
4", 4.5", and 5" slides each need a matching holster. A 4.5-inch slide in a 4-inch holster does not seat, and a 4-inch slide in a 4.5-inch holster leaves an exposed gap below the muzzle.
The 4-inch compact is the carry build. Roughly 15 rounds, a full grip, and enough slide to shoot well. It conceals comfortably strong-side at 3–4 o'clock with a forward cant, and appendix is workable with a wedge.
Be aware the PDP's grip texture is aggressive. Against bare skin, an undershirt is close to mandatory for IWB carry. That's a comfort issue, not a fit issue — but it decides whether you'll actually carry it.
| Pistol | Barrel | Capacity | Trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDP Compact | 4" | 15+1 | Excellent stock trigger |
| P365 XL | 3.7" | 12+1 | Very good |
| Glock 19 | 4.02" | 15+1 | Serviceable, upgradeable |
The PDP wins on trigger and ergonomics for most hands. The Glock wins on holster availability. That gap is closing, but it's real — plan for a slightly smaller holster selection.
Generally no. The PDP slide profile and serrations differ from the PPQ, so retention and coverage are not reliable. Use a PDP-specific holster.
Yes. The PDP-F has a shorter trigger reach and a modified frame, so fit can differ. Buy the holster listed for the PDP-F specifically.
Yes, with an optic-cut holster that clears the optic housing. Many PDP models ship optic-ready and are commonly carried with a dot.
The 4-inch compact conceals well with a forward cant and a proper belt. The 4.5-inch and 5-inch models are better suited to outside-the-waistband carry.
It can. The texture is aggressive against bare skin. Wear an undershirt or use a holster with a full sweat guard.
