Home / Guides / Best Holster for an M&P 2.0 Compact: S&W's Duty-Grade Carry Pistol
The M&P 2.0 Compact is one of the most commonly issued and carried pistols in the country. It is also one of the most frequently mis-holstered, because S&W uses the same name across several barrel lengths.
| Model | Barrel | Capacity | Carry verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| M&P 2.0 Subcompact | ~3.6" | 12+1 | Most concealable 2.0 |
| M&P 2.0 Compact 3.6" | 3.6" | 15+1 | The carry standard |
| M&P 2.0 Compact 4" | 4" | 15+1 | Glock 19 equivalent |
| M&P 2.0 Full Size | ~4.25" | 17+1 | OWB / duty |
A 3.6-inch Compact will not seat properly in a 4-inch holster, and a 4-inch slide will protrude from a 3.6-inch body. This is the most common M&P holster mistake.
The 2.0 has an aggressively textured grip, revised trigger, and a slightly different frame profile. Many holsters fit both, but retention can differ because the 2.0's frame is a bit wider at the grip. Confirm the holster lists the 2.0 explicitly.
3.6-inch or 4-inch, not "M&P Compact." Get it right and everything else follows.
Many 2.0 Compacts have a frame-mounted thumb safety, and many do not. If yours does, verify the holster clears the lever in both positions and does not actuate it on the draw.
Complete enclosure with no gaps. The 2.0's trigger is improved over the original but still light enough that coverage is the whole safety system.
S&W offers optic-ready configurations. If you run a dot, the holster needs relief sized for your optic housing.
A 2.0 Compact with 15 rounds is a full-weight carry package. Stiff belt, wide attachment footprint, and clips that grip rather than hang.
This is the intended carry build: nearly a Glock 19's capacity in a shorter slide. Strong-side at 3–4 o'clock with a 15-degree forward cant conceals well under a mid-weight shirt. Appendix works with a wedge, though the 2.0's grip texture against bare skin argues for an undershirt.
Essentially a 19 in a different shape. Same advice: forward cant at the hip, mid-weight cover garment, and honest expectations about thin t-shirts.
| Pistol | Barrel | Capacity | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| M&P 2.0 Compact | 3.6" / 4" | 15+1 | Ergonomic grip, duty proven |
| Glock 19 | 4.02" | 15+1 | Most holster options |
| CZ P-10 C | 4" | 15+1 | Low bore axis |
All three are legitimate choices. The M&P's advantage is grip ergonomics and a trigger that most shooters like out of the box; the Glock's advantage is every holster ever made.
No, not properly. The 3.6-inch slide will not fill the holster body and will sit loose. Buy for your exact barrel length.
Often, but retention can differ because the 2.0 frame is slightly wider with more aggressive texture. Confirm the 2.0 is listed.
If it has one, yes — verify the holster clears the lever in both positions and does not actuate it during the draw.
Yes, with an optic-cut holster that clears the housing. Optic-ready 2.0 models are common.
Yes. The 3.6-inch Compact is one of the most practical double-stack carry pistols available, and it needs no more concealment effort than a Glock 19.
