Home / Guides / Best Holster for a SIG P238: The .380 That Shoots Like a Big Gun
The P238 is the most shootable .380 pocket pistol most people will ever handle, because it is essentially a scaled 1911. That also means it is the most holster-dependent: a single-action trigger with a manual safety is not something you put loose in a pocket.
A micro single-action .380, roughly the size of a Ruger LCP but with a proper single-action trigger, a manual thumb safety, and 1911-style controls. It carries condition one: chamber loaded, hammer cocked, safety engaged.
That combination is excellent for shootability and demanding for holster discipline. The trigger is light and short, and the entire safety system between the trigger and your body is the holster plus the engaged thumb safety.
Not interchangeable with the P938 despite looking similar. Different slide dimensions and different fit.
This is the critical feature on a pocket holster for the P238. The holster body should be shaped so the safety lever cannot be nudged off by the inside of your pocket, keys, or a phone.
No gaps at the front, rear, or underside. On a single-action trigger this is the entire safety margin.
The holster stays in the pocket; the pistol comes out alone. If the holster follows the gun, it is a liability.
A flat, angular profile reads as a wallet or phone. A holster that follows the pistol's silhouette reads as a pistol.

The P238 and LCP are the same class of gun with completely different trigger systems. The P238 rewards training with a much better trigger; the LCP forgives neglect with a long pull. Your holster must match the gun you actually chose.
No. They are different slide dimensions. Use a P238-specific holster.
Yes, in condition one with the thumb safety engaged, in a holster that fully covers the trigger guard and protects the safety lever.
A rigid, P238-specific pocket holster with an anti-print panel and a shape that shields the thumb safety. The holster should stay in the pocket when you draw.
Yes. It is small enough to disappear inside the waistband. Check that the manual safety is not being nudged by clothing or your body.
