Home / Guides / Best Holster for a Glock 26: Small Pistol, Real Carry Problems
The Glock 26 is small enough that people assume holstering it is easy. It is not — the problems are just different. A short slide wants more cant, a short grip wants a place to put your pinky, and the whole package wants a holster that does not wobble.
The 26 shares the 19's frame height in a shorter package, with a 3.43-inch barrel and a short grip that only fits two fingers for most shooters. It is the classic subcompact compromise: excellent to hide, awkward to hold.
Two things follow from that. First, the gun sits lower against the belt, which means less barrel to stabilize against your body — so the holster has to lock the frame, not just the slide. Second, the short grip means you will add a pinky extension or a 12-round magazine, and that changes what your cover garment has to hide.
Non-negotiable on every pistol, more so on a subcompact where the entire frame is a few inches long and any gap is proportionally huge.
Some cheap holsters grip the slide and let the frame float. On a short-slide gun that means rattle and a shifting draw angle. Retention should press on the trigger guard and frame.
A short barrel plus a short grip means the gun wants to sit flat against your body. A 15–20 degree forward cant tucks the grip into your side and stops the whole package from rotating.
If you run a Pearce grip extension or a 12-round mag, verify it clears the holster body on the draw and does not catch on the way out. Test with the exact magazine you carry.
Less than a 19, more than most people expect. The dominant print on a subcompact is the grip and the magazine baseplate, not the slide. That means the fix is usually the holster's ride height and cant, plus a shirt that is a half-inch looser — not a smaller gun.
| Pistol | Barrel | Capacity | Best carry position |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glock 26 | 3.43" | 10+1 / 12+1 | Appendix |
| Glock 19 | 4.02" | 15+1 | 3–4 o'clock |
| Glock 43X | 3.41" | 10+1 | Appendix or 3 o'clock |
| SIG P365 | 3.1" | 10+1 | Appendix |
Against the 43X, the 26 is slightly thicker and slightly heavier, in exchange for Glock magazine compatibility and access to 12-, 15-, and 17-round mags. If you already run a 19, the 26 is a logical hideout gun.
Yes, noticeably. Shorter barrel and shorter grip, both of which reduce printing. The 26 hides in clothing that would show a 19's grip.
No. The slide and dust cover lengths differ, so the 19 will not seat fully in a 26 holster and the muzzle will protrude past a 19's holster body.
Appendix. The short slide makes sitting far more comfortable than with a 19, and the short grip does not cant up over the belt. Strong-side 3–4 o'clock also works well.
For carry, no — the flush magazine hides better. For shooting, a Pearce extension or 12-round mag improves control. Try both; the extension changes what your shirt has to cover.
Only an optic-cut holster. On a short slide an optic sits close to the belt, so confirm the cut clears the optic housing and does not contact your clothing on the draw.
